Novoclimat

The program Novoclimat is a Quebec government initiative that encourages the construction of new energy-efficient homes and small multi-unit buildings. This program offers green certification to buildings that meet strict energy efficiency standards.

In addition to certification, Novoclimat offers financial assistance to owners of new homes that meet these standards. The goal is to reduce energy consumption, improve occupant comfort, and decrease greenhouse gas emissions, thereby contributing to the fight against climate change.

To be eligible for the Novoclimat grant, houses must meet the following criteria:

  1. Construct a new single-family building, whether detached, semi-detached, row-shaped, multi-generational, or single-family with an attached dwelling.
  2. Use primarily electricity, natural gas, or residual forest biomass as an energy source for heating.
  3. Be built by a contractor who has received specific training and is Novoclimat certified.
  4. Located in Quebec, below the 51st parallel.

In addition, the installation of an eligible heat pump in the property may qualify for additional financial assistance.

Renoclimat

The program Renoclimat is an initiative of Transition Énergétique Québec aimed at encouraging homeowners in Quebec to carry out energy-efficient renovations.

This program provides financial assistance for energy efficiency improvements such as insulation, improved airtightness, replacement of doors and windows, and installation of mechanical systems such as heat pumps and ventilation systems.

Before beginning work, participants must register for the program and receive an initial energy assessment of their home. Rénoclimat helps reduce the energy consumption of homes, improving their comfort while reducing their environmental impact.

This program provides financial support for:

  1. Improving the insulation of the roof, foundations, exterior walls or an exposed floor, covering 20% of the total area.
  2. Waterproofing work to reduce air leaks, assessed by an infiltration test to measure the air change rate.
  3. The installation or replacement of Energy Star appliances and mechanical ventilation or heating systems with more efficient models, under certain conditions.

To access this assistance, the work must be validated by a Rénoclimat advisor. Owners of duplexes, triplexes, single-family homes, and rental properties with 4 to 20 units can benefit from subsidies, for example, up to 50,000 TP4T for a geothermal system.

After the renovations, beneficiaries of this program can see a reduction of 20% on their heating bill thanks to the tax credit.

Heat green

The program Heat green is designed for those considering replacing their heat pump. This program offers financial assistance for the installation of an eligible heat pump.

This program is not limited to replacing heat pumps, but also extends to replacing oil or propane heating systems with systems using renewable energy, such as electricity.

It also includes the replacement of oil or propane water heaters with versions powered by renewable energy. Applicants have up to six months after the start of work to submit their application for financial assistance.

To find out about eligibility criteria and potential aid amounts, it is recommended to consult the government website.

RenoRegion

The program RenoRegion is intended to support low-income owner-occupiers in carrying out major renovation work on their homes, provided that the latter has a value of at least 100,000$.

To be eligible, the cost of the planned renovations must amount to a minimum of 2000$ and must focus on at least one of the following areas: exterior walls, roof, openings, projections, structure, heating, plumbing, thermal insulation, electricity.

The program, administered by the Société d'Habitation du Québec, can finance up to $95,000 of renovation costs, with a maximum of $12,000. It targets residents of municipalities with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants or in the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine region.

Eco-friendly house (SCHL)

The program CMHC Eco-House offers a mortgage loan insurance premium refund for the purchase or construction of an eco-friendly home, up to $25. This refund also applies to energy-efficient renovations financed by a CMHC loan.

Homes built to Novoclimat, LEED Canada, ENERGY STAR, Built Green Canada, GreenHouse, GreenHome, Manitoba Hydro's New Homes Program and R-2000 standards are automatically eligible for a partial mortgage loan insurance premium refund, ranging from $15 to $25.

Government Grant

In light of the contribution of 18 % of Canada's greenhouse gas emissions from buildings, the federal government has launched a financial aid program to encourage Canadians to make their homes more energy efficient.

This program offers up to 5,600 $ for home improvements, including 600 $ to cover pre- and post-renovation assessments and up to 5,000 $ for specific energy-efficient work such as improving insulation, heating systems, replacing doors and windows, adding smart thermostats and improving airtightness.

Green housing

In addition, Desjardins offers theGreen housing offer, allowing mortgage customers to benefit from up to $ 2,000 for the purchase or construction of an eco-friendly home, as well as a discount on home insurance. This offer recognizes eco-certifications such as Novoclimat 2.0, ENERGY STAR and LEED Canada.

Other financial assistance is available in Quebec, with various municipal programs helping with the realization of ecological real estate projects. It is advisable to inquire with municipalities to find out about these programs.
